HOW SPEAKING ABOUT SUICIDE CAN SAVE LIVES
The Story
*This film is in its festival run
There is an often overlooked significance of suicide in media, with far reaching effects that can be both negative and positive.
Dwight Holton, CEO of Lines for Life, explores the impacts of framing the discussion around suicide in our society, and presents us with methods that individuals, journalists, and the media at large can use to discuss suicide safely and make a difference in saving lives.
Background
Dwight Holton lost his cousin to suicide when they were young. After working as a lawyer in the northeast, Dwight moved to Oregon and found his place working alongside the life saving employees and volunteers at Lines for Life. He has since continued to spread a message of hope by providing help and resources as CEO for the non-profit organization.
